L’Ordre Mondial des Gourmets Dégustateurs is an integral part of La Chaine; it was founded in Paris on September 2nd, 1963 and specializes in the appreciation, understanding and studying of wines, spirits, liqueurs and mineral waters. Its function and goal is to promote and enhance the experience of fine wines and spirits through dinners, tastings, conferences and articles that complement a better appreciation of wines and spirits.

A major objective and task of the Ordre Mondial is to organise dinners, tastings, conferences, competitions, meetings and events focusing on wine and drinks and where applicable, accompanied by the appropriate dishes. These type of events, as well as articles and publications, encourage and foster an understanding and appreciation of wines and spirits which is valued by Ordre Mondial members and their guests.

L’Ordre Mondial is first and foremost a part of the Confrérie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs. It is under the authority of an Echanson whose activities are supervised by the Bailli Délegue.

The events in Costa Rica organized by the Ordre Mondial are, generally, less formal than those of the Chaîne. The primary focus of an Ordre Mondial dinner in Costa Rica is definitely the exquisite wines and their appreciation. The tastings are accompanied with the usually very educational and passionate explanations of our Echanson, while food is playing a supporting but nonetheless a very important role.

The members of the Ordre Mondial include professionals, working in the drinks sector, mostly wine importers and ‘amateurs’. Accordingly, members are classified in the same way as the Chaîne as ‘professional’ or ‘amateur’ (non-professional). Any active member of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs can become a member of the Ordre Mondial, provided that they are proposed by a member of the Ordre Mondial. Membership in the Ordre Mondial also requires a separate membership and subscription payment.
